Where I live the parents don't play with their children. Instead, the kids are beaten and called stupid and useless. More than this, there are 64 registered sex offenders in a 3 block radius. This is a social examination of the effects of maladroit parenting and predators on the world's most perfect creature - a child.

This Broken children series breaks my heart. Little children with old eyes... I've seen them, but I can't quite remember where except for photos. Maybe they're not as common where I live... or too common to recall only one memory. Who knows?
Apart from the eyes, and the very obvious raw wound, there's one detail that catches attention - those firmly shut lips. These children won't speak, they don't know yet the other parents can be kinder, that the world didn't have to be so cruel to them. They were never heard out either, so why try?
Paradoxical at first thought - puppets have these mouths to be able to "speak". And not so paradoxical at second thought - the puppets open their mouths, but there's always someone else speaking for them. Whatever they would want to say, they can't.
Thank all gods there is a way to help at least a few of these children.
